Talk this over with the guy in the band who has Sonar 8, or the guy who has Sonar 8 who is mixing for the band. Of course not all the products available from Cakewalk will let you do all the stuff you may be tempted to do. For that you need an application that uses the Sonar native format-means you have to but it from Cakewalk. and still let the guy with Sonar pull out the stuff that does not work in the mix. A program that is compatible with the Sonar format will let you try all kinds of stuff like time stretching, effects automation etc. Once you have altered the sound file, undoing your changes is like taking the garlic out of the spaghetti sauce. The advantage to having a Sonar 8 native format compatible app in your situation, is that you may be tempted to actually do something with the file once you have recorded it. Best bang for the buck here is probably Audacity-a much better program than anyone has a right to expect for the price. If all you need is to be able to carry a wave file on a USB drive, it would be difficult to find an audio recording application that is not compatible with Sonar 8. Or is what I'm wanting to do even possible ? I've got a US-122L by Tascam as an interface so latency and such is a non-issue. What's the bare minimum I can use? I'll be recording direct with various Digitech and Line 6 gear, with the occasional miked amp. I would be importing the bed tracks recorded into 8 into my program, multi tracking rhythm and lead guitar parts, then re-importing tracks back to 8. All I need is bare bones multi tracks and compatability to Sonar 8. My goal is to be able to record guitar tracks at my house, put them on a flash drive and bring them to the bands practice space where the Sonar 8 setup is.
